WP 2: Know-how transfer

The aim of work package 2 is to organise the know-how transfer about sustainable water and wastewater management (SWM) between and in partner countries. In order to assure this know-how transfer WP 2 is divided into 6 tasks:

• task 2.1: Preparation of material
• task 2.2: Legislation up-date.
• task 2.3: Train the Trainer seminars at TDCs
• task 2.4: Excursions to sites in EU-countries
• task 2.5.1: Training sessions in the four MPC
• task 2.5.2: Workshops for target groups in MPC

Task 2.1: Preparation of material

wB will develop and prepare Zer0-M training materials in co-operation with the project partners who contribute with their know-how and local expert knowledge. Existing materials will be adapted in co-operation with the MPC partners experienced in the field of professionals training, administration and research activities.

The language of the materials is English, the local partners will translate them for the local training according to the needs of the target groups (French, Turkish, Arabian).
The Zer0-M education materials include special parts for the trainers. The train-the-trainer materials deal especially with the following issues:

• didactical concepts
• presentation of experiences with and best practice of the applied technologies

The training materials will be independent from producers. However, recommendable technical solutions of different producers will be presented to the participants of the trainings.
Apart from the education materials, small-scale models and system parts as well as the Zer0-M realisations (pilot plants and Training and Demonstration Centers (TDC)) in the MPCs will be used to demonstrate sustainable water and wastewater management concepts.

Task 2.2: Legislation up-date

The collection and comment of existing legislation with respect to SWM and reuse is an important step in order to understand existing practices and to prepare a change.
A synopsis of the existing legislation in the MPCs and European Mediterranean Countries provides a data base for the elaboration or revision of guidelines or water laws, codes of conduct or codes of good practice on decentralised wastewater treatment and wastewater re-use regarding environmental and health aspects.

Task 2.3: Train the Trainer seminars

The Train-the-Trainer (TtT) seminar is a course organised for local experts selected by the MEDA partners who shall in consequence help to multiply knowledge and applications SWM technologies in their countries. The participants will develop additional knowledge on SWM throughout the implementation of Zer0-M.
Course participants from the MPCs shall realise further trainings at the TDCs with support and assistance of the Zer0-M-partners. One to three participants from each MPC are invited to attend the intensive TtT seminar in Hanover (Germany) for a duration of one to two weeks (incl. excursions) depending on financial possibilities and interest.
The lecturers are members of the consortium and the lectures will be held in English.
The estimated subjects will be:
- didactical concepts and teaching methods
- sustainable technologies in water and wastewater management (water saving,  stormwater collection, segregation of wastewater, treatment technologies)
- water and nutrient efficiency and reuse
- examples for water saving sanitary facilities
- legislation and regulations
- planning tools (Life Cycle Analysis, GIS)

The lectures will be supplemented with excursions.

Task 2.4: Excursions to sites in EU-countries

fbr and ALT will organise different excursions to demonstrate technologies of sustainable water management in Germany and Italy like rainwater harvesting, rainwater infiltration, greywater recycling, sewage treatment in reed bed treatment plants and membrane filtration. The sites will include single-family dwellings and larger residential complexes.

Task 2.5.1: Training sessions in the four MPC

To reach the target groups and a great number of multipliers, training measures are to be carried out on site by the trained local trainers that participated in the TtT seminar. The first pilot course at the TDCs will be run in co-operation with the Zer0-M partners. Afterwards the local partners will be enabled to run the courses on their own.

Task 2.5.2: workshops for 5 target groups in MEDA-P

To create awareness for the potential of sustainable water management and Zer0-M strategies and to transfer know-how to the different target groups every MPC will carry out 7 workshops. These workshops will create the context to implement water protection technologies and strategies.
Goals of the workshops are:
·    Involving multipliers and decision makers
·    Qualifying technical staff
·    Founding networks to enhance the co-operation in the field of water protection
·    Establishing a quality assurance system
·    Enhancing the efficiency of water management systems
